Dihybrid practice (pgs 20-23) & adaptive curriculum

Please finish the pages you received Friday from the sub.

pgs 20-21 Genetic crosses with 2 traits
pgs 22-23 Guinnea pig dihybrid practice


Once those are complete (as well as the problems on pgs 16 & 17 that you can use 18-19 for work space to solve), please go to adaptivecurriculum.com and work on the genetics lesson that has been assigned.

Week 2 (spring semester) block day Gleeps and Eggs

Remember to check the blog for assignments and announcements for the class

Today

  • Get the "gleeps" information, and tape it into pgs 8-9
  • Complete the gleeps lab and clean up the beans
  • continue onto "plastic egg genetics".  The instruction sheets are in the box.  Follow the instructions and write your data on pgs 10 & 11.
  • If we have time, a short PowerPoint on Mendel and what your data means.

Please continue to work on "marking up the text" with the article that goes on pgs 5 & 6.

Once that is complete, read "Fido's Family Tree" and answer the questions in the packet that goes on pg 7
Pick at least one other article to read in the magazine, we will be discussing it on Monday.

If you finish all of that, work on the genetics vocab crossword puzzle.

Welcome Back!

Welcome back! Hope everyone had a restful break :)

We ended last semester talking about cells and are going to focus on Genetics this semester.  As we talk about genetics and health, bioethical discussions are going to occur. 
Some things to think about 

  • If you could design your own baby (eye color, hair color, height, intelligence, lack of diseases, etc) would you?  Where do you draw the line?
  • As we look at diseases, if we could eradicate certain diseases, should we?  
  • Is it better to treat the symptoms or try to find a cure?
Before we jump into the study of genetics, we are going to watch a documentary called "Under our Skin".


We will stop throughout the movie and discuss what is happening and why we should care about this disease.

Also, you need a new composition notebook for the new semester by Thursday Jan 9, 2014 :)
